Chips Made in Calabria
“ A novelty on the Italian market, the French fries in a bag, with Sila potatoes and Tropea PGI onions are handcrafted, with a strong and delicate flavor”
With this Note of the Spezzano della Sila (CS) site and in particular on the page dedicated to Camigliatello, we learn of the birth of an entirely Calabrian product.
“The Sila potato is of great value with strong organoleptic connotations, characteristics given by being the only high mountain product grown in the central Mediterranean.”
“ From 30 April 1998 until 9 October 2010 it was part of the register of traditional Calabrian food products, and was later recognized as a PGI product, conquering the European brand. It is registered in the register of mountain products.”
How “Le Montanine” are born
The idea of transforming such a valuable ingredient into a commercial product came to Anthony and Serene .
Young entrepreneurs who, after a series of difficulties on the farm, decided to try a whole new path and had the idea of bagging the chips and thus creating a new Calabrian brand.
One format is the classic potato chip, fried and salted. Another format is instead enriched by the flavor of another proudly Calabrian product, namely the Tropea onion, also a PGI product.
